Upcycled Treasure Chest of Summer Activities

Hi there, Friends! As promised Friday, today I'm sharing the upcycle of a yard sale freebie--a trashed box transformed as a treasure chest for summer activities I planned for Ginger Grand's visit...

I started by cleaning the wooden box, inside and out.

Next, I gave it a coat of turquoise spray paint, followed by a coat of gold.

Then I lightly distressed it with sandpaper, allowing the turquoise to peek through the gold and giving it an aged patina.

I wrote a variety of fun activities on these colorful note cards for GG to find when he opens the treasure chest each morning.

Last, I lined the inside of the box with a thrift store map.

  1. You could also have educational subjects, like tree or bird identification, providing that you have the book for such an activity. Also, reading a book together might be another idea. Play easy card games, memory games or bingo, depending on abilities of the child. Have a fun summer!

  11. My kids always loved to help make pizza and tacos. Pizza was one of the few meals eaten in the living room--usually with a favorite movie in the VCR! Library visit, visit to a thrift store/yard sale with a small money gift (start 'em young!), local ice cream shop, animal shelter visit to socialize the animals...the list is endless!
